Superannuation insurance benefits may include:
- Total and Temporary Disability Benefit (TTD) or similar benefits
- Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) lump sum benefit
If your patient cannot do their usual job because of medical reasons or incapacity, they may qualify for TTD benefits. TTD benefits are normally in the form of a weekly or monthly payment based on a percentage of the person’s wage. TTD or similar benefits are sometimes payable until age 65. There is usually a qualifying period of 1 to 6 months.
To qualify for a TPD lump sum benefit, ordinarily your patient must establish that they are permanently unfit for their usual employment or any other employment that they are qualified to perform by reason of their education, training or experience. Many people with a permanent medical condition or incapacity will have a TPD lump sum entitlement.
